The Sporting Life - Mid-Sized Sport ATV Roundup

Mid Sized Package – Full Sized FUN

At the top of the ATV pyramid are the quads designed with championships in mind. These are the racers, capable of maximum performance, and while this segment of the market receives most of the attention, it becomes easy to overlook the huge number of less experienced riders who simply love to ride the trails. For those riders, a sporty ATV with good power, handling, reliability, and affordability work far better than one with a finicky race engine. Luckily, there are quite a few mid sized sport ATVs under 350ccs that work perfectly.

It's been over 5 years since the speculation, supposed sightings, and internet conjuring began. Loyal Can-Am fans and Side x Side enthusiasts riding every other brand have been waiting to see the latest innovative off road machine designed by the high performance crew from Valcourt, Quebec. While a few speculated that any new model would surely be designed only for utilitarian work, permanently resigned to construction or farm duty, those who studied the Can-Am design philosophy across their other product lines expected nothing less than cutting edge performance.

Old School – The Original ATV

Testing the RangeRunner

Every so often while exploring a new ride area, we’ll stumble onto a vehicle we haven’t seen before. Then again, sometimes it stumbles onto us. Such was the case when a charismatic character called “Tinley Park Dave” clattered by us at the Badlands Ride area in Indiana. With World War II helmet slung low on his head, unfastened strap swinging in the breeze, heavy work gloves on the stick, and dark shades and heavy work coat completing the image, we managed to flag down General Dave’s one man invasion force. This guy had a story, and we were eager to hear it!

Baseball is played on a diamond, football has the gridiron, and golfers have their country clubs, but we prefer the "back country club". There is nothing better than exploring a new riding area on an ATV or Side x Side. Every turn of the trail is a new challenge, and a chance to check out territory we haven't seen before. Like most riders, we never get tired of challenging ourselves at someplace new, and while most riding areas feature woods, rocks, or tight trails, we know of one private off-road area that has it all.

Sand Storm - Yamaha Special Edition Sport ATVs

We ride the Glamis Dunes

For those that live in a Northern climate, winter presents a whole new type of riding as lakes and ponds freeze over, and as snow piles up on the trail. It’s a blast pitching the back end of an ATV or Side x Side around in the fluff, or charging through drifts that explode in a white cloud as you power through. The trouble is, after several months of cold weather riding, we’re ready for a few days in the sun, and the perfect place to unwind is at the most famous sand box in the country: Southern California’s Imperial Sand Dunes, aka. GLAMIS!
