It’s been a long time since bears roamed freely in Southern California’s San Bernardino forest. The high mountain lake area wasn’t named Big Coyote, Big Deer, or Big Prairie Dog, but it is called Big Bear for a reason, despite a century or so of relatively unmolested camping. Recently, Grizzlies prowled the old domain of the Golden bear, every bit the dominant predator they’ve always been. This bear was not the Grizzly of old that chilled the blood of explorers, miners, settlers, and Native Americans, but this Grizzly was introduced by Yamaha and we had come to tame it.

Katie Stelzer and Shaelynne Rocha are both outdoor loving girls. If there is a sport or an outside activity to try, you can count them in, and when the first trail ride of spring was announced for Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula, they were more than ready to go. So were we along with about 100 other riders who made their way north for the first ever Moran Spring Ride.

ATV riding has always been a family sport and that means everyone in the family shares the adventure. It doesn’t take much coaxing to introduce a new rider to ATVing, and they usually take to it like ducks to water. It’s important to make sure junior gets started correctly, however, and with literally dozens of youth quads available, we wanted to list the ones that pass our inspection for quality, safety, and complete OEM support from sales, to parts, to safety.

When most people think of John Deere, it has little to do with off-road vehicles and everything to do with American agriculture. There’s more than one side to a field, however, and the company that began with old John Deere’s simple steel plow, pounded into shape from a broken saw blade, has turned into one of the world’s most recognizable brands, with products that touch on nearly every type of outdoor activity whether it’s work or recreation. Deere & Co.

Honda unveiled the fifth generation Honda Foreman ATV at its South Carolina production facility in Florence. The redesigned 4x4 was the first machine fully developed/produced – from concept to production – entirely in the United States. We took part in the quad’s initial production, or “Line Off” ceremony, at HSC prior to riding it at Carolina Adventure World a day later.

Spring is Mother Nature’s payback for her debt of winter. The first bright, balmy days coax tulips from the wet ground, grass springs to life with the first warm rain, and invariably your neighbor fires up his old lawnmower just to be sure you didn’t forget the joys he and his Briggs & Stratton dole out for anyone in a half mile radius. No worries though; spring is the season of eternal hope when all is right with the world and many people long to plant something of their own in Mother Earth to watch it grow.
